Due to the Cabinet members’ bad start in dealing with the media, President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III said his team will undergo media relations training.

“[This is] how to handle media, how to improve relations with everybody, hindi naman normal kasi, hindi naman tinuturo sa eskwela,” Aquino told reporters, days after two of his Cabinet members had a not-so-good encounter with the press.

Last week, Department of Education Secretary Armin Luistro accused media of sowing intrigues instead of helping get a message across, when he was asked about the highly controversial issue on sex education.

Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda was hit for giving an interview with ABS-CBN’s ANC instead of showing up at a scheduled press briefing at the Palace.

Lacierda later apologized for the incident and vowed not to do it again.

Aquino said the seminar for his team would also help his administration reach out to the public.

“We want to engage the people in the agenda that we have, so the best way is through you, and to communicate what the plans are, the timeframe and not just the substance, the form is also very important, so that seminar will be had by most of the cabinet, especially those who are new to government,” Aquino added.

In a separate interview, Lacierda again apologized if he had treated media badly.

“Sorry. Pagpasensiyahan niyo na po kami. It is really a shock to me,” said Lacierda, who worked as a lawyer before joining the Aquino government.
